International practice of stimulating socio-economic development of mountain settlements in the European Union
The purpose of the publication is to research the international practice of stimulating socio-economic development of mountain settlements in the European Union. It has been analysed the experience of European countries concerning the state policy of the development of mountain territories and the legislatively established approaches of solving certain problems. It has been established that most countries with mountainous areas form a strategy of mining policy aimed to compensate the negative impact of natural, climatic and resource properties of mountain areas by providing subsidies and investment support for the development of priority types and spheres of economic activity, in particular subsidizing production or providing compensation to farmers. Farm investment aid, special quotas for dairy products for mountain areas and direct payments to farmers are examples of such measures.
